The T-4-C Youth Booster Mentoring Program provides positive adult role models to children who are in need of extra support and guidance...a BOOST! The at-risk youngsters in grades two through six are matched with an adult who spends FOUR HOURS weekly with the child. Together they work toward goals like improving academically or socially, and just have fun exploring hobbies and new interests as they build a trusting relationship. Schools within Tuscarawas County recommend the children. The coordinator meets with the family and maintains monthly contact for the duration of the match. Our program had its birth in 1980 with the assistance of the American Association of University Women and since then, many children have benefited by learning better study habits, making new friends, participating in group tours, picnics, and summer camp. One parent commented "I'm so glad for this program. His Booster is just like I'd like my son to be." Boosters must be at least twenty years old and have a heart for children. No formal training is required although periodic meetings are held to help them better meet the needs of the child. To volunteer as a Booster or request more information simply call 330.343.6012 and ask for the Coordinator: Janet Downin or send her an e-mail atjdownin@neohio.twcbc.com |
